Statement by Jann Makepeace

At heart I am a scavenger in the tradition of prehistoric humans and such artists as Duchamp and Joseph Cornell. I see new purpose in discarded objects and am constantly excited by the treasures that unfold in their new life as a sculpture.

I usually work in series or to a concept for an exhibition. I love the process of concept development, the research, the mind mapping of ideas that take me down unexpected paths. It’s the thrill of the chase, the corralling of creative thought and the drawing together of the threads of life’s experience.

I am always looking for the still point in my work. I want it to sit peacefully in our world.
